St Paul’s Collegiate School’s under-65kg rugby team secured their spot in the Waikato secondary schools under-65kg final following a close win against Matamata over the weekend.
Matamata had been unbeaten throughout the season until facing the mighty St Paul’s under-65kg.
St Paul’s under-65kg coach Craig Morton says the team produced one of their best games of the season.
The first half was closely contested with St Paul’s leading by only two points at halftime. Going into the second half 7-5, St Paul’s fought hard to keep Matamata away from the win. Grit and determination with outstanding defence saw St Paul’s hold the game to win 12-10.
The Waikato secondary school under-65kg final will be held at St John’s this Saturday 20 August at 9.30am. St Paul’s will play St John’s College for the title.
