Helen Richardson
Director of International Students, International Office
Helen’s journey working in the international space began when she managed the YWCA Hostel in Hamilton, a Hostel that worked closely with Wintec’s international department. Through this relationship, Helen was recruited by Wintec, first as a homestay coordinator and then moved her way up to the manager of pastoral care. She was also appointed Chair of Waikato Education International, an organisation all local education institutes that host international students are members of.
After 10 years with Wintec, Helen sought a change to the secondary school sector and a role that would enable her to oversee the whole process for international students. She was attracted to St Paul’s having had her son schooled here. Appointed in 2012, as the Director of International Students, Helen manages the process from recruitment through to overseeing the students’ study experience and international alumni.
Although limited travel prior, Helen is now a frequent flyer as her role also requires her to travel overseas to meet with education agents who help promote St Paul’s, as well as to catch up with the parents of current students. One thing Helen takes particularly seriously within her role is the care of our international students.
Equipped with a Diploma in Business Management, Helen originally wanted to be an event manager – skills which she gets to put to good use when organising the school’s international week.
