St Paul’s students were out in force over the weekend playing for Midland’s, Waikato and Counties representative teams at regional and association hockey tournaments.
The Midland’s under-18 team was made up of five St Paul’s students and an Old Collegian: Reuben Andrews (captain), Garrick du Toit, Richard Bloor, Aakash Chimanlal, Maks Wyndham-Smith and Jonathan Bloor (Old Collegian).
The team were up against North Harbour in the final. It was a tight game with no goals scored during the match. It was a 5-3 shootout that won gold for Midland’s who were ecstatic to secure the win after two silvers in the past two years.
Reuben was named most valuable player for the whole tournament and, with four goals to his name, was top goal scorer (shared award) of the tournament. Jonathan was close behind with three goals.
Other successes for the weekend were Waikato under-18 hockey team – Felix Rolls, Shantanu Rawal, Callum Prosser – who managed to secure bronze at the association tournament.
The Waikato under-18 girls (Maddi Tims and Emanae Ferguson) and Counties (Arthur Rasmussen) both finished with a credible sixth.
