BMX rider to compete at world champs

12 June 2017

A love for BMX that flourished on the bike tracks of Tihoi is taking Rico D’Anvers (Year 11) to South Carolina to compete at the 2017 world championships in July.

It is the culmination of a busy year for Rico, who most recently placed second in the under-16 boys group at the national championships in Te Awamutu over Easter weekend.

In March, Rico represented New Zealand at the Oceania championships in Bathurst, Australia where he made the final round in each of the three meets he entered.

Rico also represented New Zealand in the senior development squad at the Nerang International BMX meet in January, placing fifth in the final of the under-16 event.

Rico acknowledges his time at Tihoi as an “amazing experience" with "significant benefit" to his BMXing.

Rico’s 2017 results so far:

  • Placed second in the under-16 boys category at the 2017 New Zealand Championships
  • Placed fifth in the under-16 boys category in the Grands Assault meet at the 2017 Oceania Championships
  • Placed fifth in the under-16 boys category at the 2017 Nerang International BMX meet
  • Placed sixth in the under-16 boys category in the Continental Championships at the 2017 Oceania Championships
