St Paul’s Old Collegian, Blake Hill, has been named in the Auckland Mitre 10 Cup squad. He played as starting hooker last week in the pre-season game Auckland vs North Harbour and has been named again in the starting line-up in this week’s game against Bay of Plenty.
This success was predicted by Blake’s 2008 1st XV coach Andrew Gibbs who, in 2008, said: “Blake is quite possibly the best lineout thrower in his age group in the country. He will be a player for the future.”
Since leaving St Paul’s Blake has played club rugby in Auckland, captained Thames Valley and enjoyed a season in Ireland where he was able to play semi-professional which confirmed to him that being a professional rugby player was a goal worth working hard for.
He says his secret to his success has been hard-work, keeping super fit and injury free.
