During the school holidays, St Paul’s hosted the 2018 Chiefs U18 rugby camp, with the best 50 players from the Chiefs franchise selected to attend.
Working alongside the Chiefs and Mitre 10 Cup coaches, the camp covered things such as Chiefs culture, mental skills, fitness testing and physical development, nutrition and on-field individual skill, unit and team development.
The St Paul’s rugby players involved were:
Gideon Wrampling (Year 12) and Valynce Crosby-Te Whare (Year 13) – part of ‘Team Messam’ who played the Crusaders U18 team, winning 22-18.
Liam Allen (Year 13), Daniel Johnson (Year 13) and Tepaea Cook-Savage (Year 12) – part of ‘Team Clarke’ who played the NZ Māori U18 development team, winning 54-14.
Two St Paul’s staff were also involved in the camp:
Paul Hodder, as Individual Skill Development and ‘Team Clarke’ Head Coach, and Daniel Teka, as ‘Team Messam’ Backs Coach.
The St Paul’s facilities and service were rated “top notch” by camp organisers and attendees – a big thanks goes to Cody Price and the grounds staff, as well as Chris Warner and his team in the dining hall.
