Second in New Zealand for squash

10 August 2017

Ranked second in New Zealand – our squash players have done us proud taking away the silver medal in the 2017 New Zealand Secondary School National Squash Championship.

Jack Collins (Year 11), Temwa Chileshe (Year 12), Sean Dykes, Sam Wilson and Lwamba Chileshe (all Year 13) competed in the championship, which was held August 4 – 6 in Palmerston North.

The boys played superbly making it through to the semi-final against the home team, Palmerston North Boys’ High School, which they won 5-0. This took them into the final against Westlake Boys’ High School – who have the top two secondary school players in the country.

The final was no easy feat for our players, who were pitted against Westlake players of a higher grade for four of the five games. However the boys still gave it their best shot winning two of the five games and placing second in the competition.

Recognised for their outstanding play, Lwamba, Temwa and Sean have been selected for the New Zealand Secondary School senior team, which travels to Australia in a few weeks for a trans-Tasman competition.
