Ten current and past students of St Paul’s Collegiate School have been selected to represent the Waikato Bay of Plenty teams at the New Zealand Futsal Youth Nationals, which will be held in Wellington in from 8 to 12 July.
Futsal is one of the fastest growing sports in New Zealand with more than 56,000 participants involved in leagues and programmes. The competition attracts both male and female under-12 to under-19 teams from each region.
Almost 50 percent of the two senior Waikato BOP teams are made up of St Paul’s current students and Old Collegians. Old Collegians Sam Masterson, John Penyas and Ayush Lakhera have been selected for the under-19 Waikato squad and current students Tom Goodwin, Luke Goodwin, Matthew Collier, Waikato Ball, Hamish Comber and Harry Porritt for the under-19 Waikato BOP development team. St Paul’s is also represented in the junior squads with Owen Comber selected for the under-14 Waikato team.
The competition, this year, will also coincide with the Futsal Whites trans-Tasman and commonwealth cup games in the evenings.
