Ben Littlejohn managed a medal haul of one gold and three bronze as a member of the Aquaknights team that competed at the Victorian age-group swimming championships in Australia in mid-December.
Over a gruelling week of swimming the St Paul’s Collegiate School student made the final of eight events in the 14-year age group.
In the finals, he outswam some of Australia’s top swimmers to take home gold in the 100-meter butterfly and bronze in the 100, 200 and 400-meter freestyle events.
Ben’s outstanding performance has secured him a spot on the Aquaknights team which will compete at the New Zealand zonal competition in February.
The team is made up of swimmers from the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Taranaki and Hawkes Bay regions.
This is a promising start to the year for the talented sportsman who last year blew the competition out of the water at the New Zealand secondary school swimming championships to take home an impressive six medals.
Ben secured gold in 50m and 100m butterfly, silver in 50m and 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle and bronze in 300m backstroke. He also placed fourth in four other events.
