Oliver Larcombe (Year 9) has secured his status as one of St Paul’s Collegiate School’s emerging young athletes after earning a silver medal in the under-14 category at the Waikato Schools Individual Triathlon Championships in March, 2017.
The event, held at Mighty River Domain at Lake Karapiro, consisted of a 300m swim, a 12km bike leg and a 3km run.
Oliver narrowly missed out on the golden spot during the running leg after maintaining first position for the swimming and cycling portions of the race.
Isaac Reay (Year 9) also put in an admirable effort but suffered mechanical problems during the cycle leg.
St Paul’s Triathlon Coach, Robert Aldridge, says the famously competitive race has given both boys “valuable experience for a bright future in athletics.”
