Four was the luck number for St Paul’s Collegiate School this year during Tournament Week. Both the boys and girls 1st XI hockey teams placed fourth in their respective competitions.
St Paul’s girls 1st XI placed fourth in the Eveline Hankers Memorial Secondary School Girl Tournament. The team remained undefeated for the whole competition scoring 27 goals and only having one goal scored against them.
“The girls set about their task in earnest on day one and their performance improved game-by-game,” said team manager Neil Muirhead.
“The toughest game was our semi-final against Longbay and the girls, from both sides, produced a wonderful spectacle – we came from 1 – 0 down to win 2 – 1.”
The Longbay match was one of the harder games of the competition. Prior to this the team had big wins against opposing schools, including an annihilating 9-0 win against Birkenhead College and a 6-0 win against Bream Bay.
Emanae Ferguson was a key player throughout the tournament, scoring 10 goals, followed closely by Maddy Tims who scored seven.
