Riders from as far north as Kaipara and as far south as Havelock North are expected at the Moto X in the Maize secondary school motocross event which will be held near Te Akau this Friday.
The national secondary schools event, hosted by St Paul’s Collegiate School and Huntly Moto X Club, is entering its second year after attracting more than 170 competitors from across the North Island in 2014.
Director of Extracurricular Activities at St Paul’s Collegiate School, Mr Peter Gilbert, said that with growing interest in motocross at the secondary school level St Paul’s Collegiate decided to host the event again plans are to have it recognised as a national secondary schools fixture by the New Zealand Secondary Schools Sports Council.
‘‘There currently isn’t a formally recognised event for Moto X, even though there are a high number of students competing in the sport at a national level.
‘‘Our aim is to have Moto X in the Maize formalised as the official secondary school event for New Zealand secondary schools,’’ Gilbert said.
St Paul’s Collegiate is also aiming for schools from the South Island to hear word of the event.
