St Paul’s Collegiate School student Conor Fuller placed first in the world for Spanish in the Language Perfect World Championships while fellow student, Mirjan Mayer placed top in New Zealand for German.
The competition attracted 330,000 students this year from more than 25 countries.
St Paul’s Head of Languages Robert Aldridge said students are tested on their language skills including reading, writing, listening, dictation, grammar and cultural knowledge.
“Students gain points by answering as many questions correctly as possible and as they reach certain thresholds certificates are awarded,” he said.
St Paul’s students who are learning Spanish or French enter the competition.
