Football - 1st XI

v Matamata 1st XI

Date: Saturday, 26 July 2014 at 8.30am
Venue: St Paul's 1
Result: Won
Score: 6-2

The bounce brigade confidently headed out onto the St Paul's Collegiate pitch with a victory already in our sight, as our last battle with Matamata ended in a 7-1 win. The game started off well with the lads playing arguably some of the best football of the season. Using the lightning pace of Josh Cave we opened up the scoring with a great run and goal from Cave. Shortly after, a nick from a corner saw the ball find Waikato Ball's feet and then the back of the net. Slacking off a little, the Matamata lads scored one back to get their hopes up. This speed bump to victory was quickly run over with a goal from Luke Goodwin and two from Waikato Ball to make the scores 5-1 at half time to St Paul's.

At half-time, Mike told the lads to just keep on passing the ball around and cherish it instead of aggressively attacking the Matamata defence. This meant 90% of possession in the second half but only one goal scored from us and one to Matamata making the final score a confident 6-2 to St Paul's .

Thanks to all the supporters for coming out on the chilly morning.
