St Paul's 1st XI played Bethlehem College on Wednesday in Tauranga, for their second game of the Midlands' Intercity Hockey Competition.
The newly laid blue turf proved to be a challenge for both teams as the ball bounced more than players were used to. St Paul's adapted and scored 4 goals in the first half through Devon Nolan, Jono Bloor and Alec Wilson with 2. The second half was more physical and St Paul's failed to capitalise on many opportunities or hold possession for long periods of time.
Bethlehem college scored a soft goal to bring the score to 4-1, but man of the match Jono Bloor put the game beyond doubt with a dazzling goal shortly after for his second of the night. The boys will have to work hard and improve before their next match against a strong Rotorua Boys side in a couple of weeks.
Final score was 5-1.
