On Saturday 9th February, the Colts Cricket team travelled to HBHS to begin, what is bound to be a memorable season.
After losing the toss and being put into bat, the St Paul’s team found themselves with their backs against the wall as the Hamilton Boys' opening bowler took a hatrick in the very first over of the game. A combination of maturity and patience saw James Holmes (28) and Jamie Carlson (25 not out) rectify proceedings. This combined with some big hitting from Ben O’Sullivan at the death of the innings, allowed St Paul’s to be bowled out for a respectable 132 runs.
After lunch, the St Paul’s team took to the field with a determined glint in their eyes, knowing that their efforts would have to be out of the top drawer in order to even stand a chance of defending their minuscule total.
A culmination of disciplined bowling, accurate fielding, and positivity in the field saw HBHS skittled over, all out for 122 runs. Thus St Paul’s Collegiate Colts strode off the oval, victors by 10 runs and proud of their efforts.
Players of the day were: James Holmes, Jamie Carlson and Matthew Fisher
