St Paul’s started slowly in the first 10 overs with bowlers often not quite hitting good areas and uncharacteristic fumbles in the field as St Peter’s reached 34 for 0 in good time. The introduction of Devon Nolan with 4 for 26 and James Chenery 4 for 19 saw fortunes reverse quickly as the fiery pace and spin combination sliced through the top order. The two bowlers were supported well in the field by excellent catches to Kip Fawcett, Malcolm Luman, Nolan and Joel Kosoof, with the consistent Joshua Malpas returning to clean bowl the last wicket as St Peter’s were out for 109.
In reply Fawcett started confidently with some powerful cut shots to make 17 but the innings was teethering slightly at 53 for 3. Enter the old firm of Freddy Walker with 38 not out and James Chenery 34 not out who played intelligently and calmly to see St Paul’s home with no further loss and some 25 overs remaining.
A great win against a traditional foe St Paul’s have not beaten in nearly two years.
Players of the day Nolan, Chenery and Walker.
