Conditions were fine and the track slightly heavy.
Kip Fawcett kicked a penalty after 10 minutes. Lindesfarne worked hard in the next 20 minutes pinning St Pauls in our half. We gave away several penalties and Lindesfarne converted these twice to take a 6 -3 lead into the break.
For twenty minutes after half time it was St Paul's that applied the pressure scoring two tries and so very close to a third.
The first try scored by Rhodri came from a stable St Pauls scrum. Corban Morrison cleared to Kip Fawcett on his left side. Rhodei came of his right wing and joined our attack, cutting through Lindesfarne’s defence with pace and speed. An exciting and well executed try.
Aaron Crow had several elusive runs during the second half and scored close to the posts. Converted by Kip Fawcett.
St Pauls forwards worked hard at the rucks and effected several turn overs. Taylor Hayes ripped the ball clear in a maul and Aaron Cleland collected a short pass setting off on a barnstorming 40 metre run. Sam Bowley had another hard grafting game and Thomas Gordon was good at the break down. Lindesfarne replied with three second half penalties.
Aaron Cleland and Rhodri McKenzie completed their 20th games for the first fifteen earning caps. Both played very well helping the team with strong running and set plays.
Our game was always going to be close. Two similar teams playing for a win. The result a 15 all draw.
The changing shed was quite afterwards; a draw. Our players frustrated, thinking about the opportunities and plays that didn’t quite come together but so easier could have.
With sport sometimes we get the test first and the lesson afterwards. Much was learned
Well done team.
