In the first round of the championship, the 2nd XV were well beaten, 59-0 by a much bigger and well-drilled Otorohanga College 1st XV. The top qualifier in Division 2, Otorohanga only just missed out on making Division 1 and will be one of the strongest sides in the grade. Particularly in the first half, with ball in hand, our 2nd XV had some good periods with continuity of possession, with Aidan O’Connor and Conner Peterson looking dangerous on attack. Open side flanker, Drew Gordon was our player of the day, proving a decisive influence in the lineouts, while flanker Harry Moss and Tavake Tohi tacked tirelessly on defence.
