On Saturday 4th of July, the 1st XI played without seven of their players due to their U18 representative commitments. The remaining senior members of the team realized that they needed to step up in both communication skills and leadership skills. The wet and slippery hockey surface made playing attractive hockey difficult. St Paul’s XI adapted well to the playing conditions but did not take up their opportunities within the opposition circle. Fielding High School were a physical side and played with lots of energy and intensity especially in their half. St Paul’s had a number of penalty corners but they were poorly executed due to lack of practice. Finally Callum Jarvis - Hall scored a goal which helped to elevate some stress from the side line. Half time score 1- 0 to SPC.
In the second half St Paul’s played better in the opposition circle. Aubrey Fish took his opportunities by scoring a hat trick of goals from good positional play and accurate shooting. The game was competitive, and the 1st XI will need to keep developing their passing game to create better scoring opportunities in future games.
Final score 4 – 1 win to St Paul’s.
