After a difficult trip down to Whakatane, arriving ten minutes after the game was supposed to start, the St Paul's team got quickly changed and headed onto the pitch to see how far a five minute warm up could get us. Obviously starting slow, we were prone to the long ball over the back three and almost got caught out several times however Trident never looked like they would convincingly convert. After many unsuccessful attempts from Trident, a signature goal from Waikato Ball where he made his way out of a cluster of defenders and chipped the keeper saw the St Paul's team head into the second half 1-0 and full of confidence. Shifting our shape more defensively, we had a strong grip into the game and spent 80% of the second half in Trident’s side. A second goal coming from a toe poke of Luke Goodwin put us further in front and then another one from Waikato Ball buried the game. End result 3-0 to St Paul's. This was a great result as we had a few team mates unable to play and it counted as a national qualifier, putting us closer to making nationals.
