Jessica Chanwai and John Penyas competed in the Hamilton Regional Chamber Music Competition as part of their musical group, Ripon Piano Quartet, which consists of John, Jess and two other students from Hamilton Boys High School, Daniel Ng and Simon Miles.
Ripon came first in the Chamber Music 18 Years and Under Class at the event, which was held at St Peter’s Cambridge on Saturday 13 July. The group was also awarded the Combined Sponsors Cup for the Best Performance of all of the Chamber Music classes.
In addition to these two outstanding achievements, Jess was awarded the Johan Endert Cup for Outstanding Musicianship. This was awarded for her performance in the PACANZ (Performing Arts Competitions Association of NZ) Acoustic Instrument Nomination Class 15 Years and Under 21 and for a duet, which Jess performed with her younger sister Victoria.
