Good vibes at concert

7 August 2014

Teenage rock band The Drunken Sailors plan to bring the house down at this year’s Good Vibrations family musical extravaganza organised by St Paul’s Collegiate.

Show producer Peter Gilbert said Good Vibrations would cater for a wide variety of musical tastes.

‘‘Good Vibrations isn’t a concert of just one genre of music, it caters for everyone and is suitable for the whole family. The students perform solos and duets and also as part of rock bands, big bands, choirs and orchestras.

‘‘Our students perform in this show annually and it gets better every time. Last year the show attracted more than 500 people, which really shows its popularity,’’ he said.

Last year former student Jonathan Eyres, now studying music at the University of Waikato, earned a standing ovation for his performance of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

‘‘This year, school band The Drunken Sailors rock band aims to tear the house down with the help of Tessa Whale, who won best female musician at this year’s Smokefreerockquest for her work on guitar.’’ The evening will also hear performances from the choir and electric violinist Jess Chanwai. Both the choir and Jess performed at recent Chiefs games at Waikato Stadium.

Good Vibrations, 7pm, Friday August 15, St Paul’s Chapel, 77 Hukanui Rd, Chartwell. Tickets: stpauls.school.nz/tickets.
