From northern Italy to north Hamilton, model to mother, it’s been quite a journey for Tamsyn Rose. She has chronicled this through music, releasing her first album via iTunes.
Rather fittingly, one of the songs on Pink Haze is The Journey.
Miss Waikato 1996, Rose went on to become an international fashion model based in Milan and treading the catwalks of Europe.
Music was always a passion, starting with piano lessons at age of 4.
She released a couple of CD singles during her time in Italy and performed shows in that country.
Returning to New Zealand in 2005 she ‘‘just missed out’’ on a recording contract.
‘‘It’s really hard to break into the music industry here,’’ she told the Hamilton Press.
Rose, 36, gave birth to a daughter in 2010 – she also has a son aged 31 ⁄2 – with her ‘‘dream goal’’ to release an album.
While living in Italy she wrote ‘‘quite a few songs’’ and also drew on her personal experiences in New Zealand.
‘‘I’m writing all the time,’’ she said.
This included about suffering post-natal depression, something which she believes is not well covered by support services in this country.
Rose is immensely proud of her first album, brought out earlier this year, which she dubs folk/pop .
‘‘If I can touch one person, my job is done,’’ she said.
Born in Hamilton, Rose attended Marian Catholic School, Sacred Heart Girls’ College and St Paul’s Collegiate School.
Another album of ‘‘happier songs’’ is in the offing, while the Rototuna resident is not discounting the thought of stage shows in New Zealand.
She remains busy with her regular ‘‘day job’’ as co-director of MooMoo Publishers, a children’s book business she founded with Fiona Williams in 2013.
