Senior and junior St Paul’s Collegiate School students received notable awards at the Waikato Science and Technology Fair. The Fair attracted more than 400 entries which were split into 19 classes.
Max Mclean-Bluck (Year 9) won the Year 9-10 Planet Earth and Beyond Class for his entry ‘Crazy Clarity.’ His entry investigated the effect of run off from residential, farming and native bush areas on the water clarity of the Kirikiriroa stream. He was also awarded one of six major prizes for this entry, winning $300 in cash and a trophy.
Year 13 student Lucy Chilston received a highly commended award for her investigation into the drug aspirin. Lucy investigated the breakdown of the protective coating on the tablets, researching if this breakdown occurs at the right time in the digestive process.
Jess Allen (Year 9) placed second in the Year 9-13 Observational Drawings Class with his pencil drawing of Kowhai flowers.
