The best word to describing the first half would be scrappy. Both sides worked hard and, but for a great performance from Waiuku’s goalie, we may have gone into the break up by more than the 1 goal scored by Zoe Lapwood off a penalty corner in the last few seconds of the half.
We knew that we could produce more in the second half but it was Waiuku that scored first, 5 minutes into the half. St Paul’s continued to apply pressure and we eventually found our way past their keeper. Emanae Ferguson scored twice, followed by a goal from Adelle Morton and finished off by a second goal from Zoe, again in the last minute of the half.
A great second half with contributions made by every member of the team! A 5 – 1 win leaves us second in our pool with every opportunity to finish top of our pool in the next two weeks.
