The U16’s made an excellent start to their game against Melville, playing good structured rugby, with accuracy at set piece and aggressive defence. St Paul’s moved the ball away from the big Melville forwards and were rewarded with two tries by Ferg Burke making the score 14 – 0. Melville rallied towards half time and their big forward pack began to get in behind the St Paul's defensive line. Half time score 14 -7. Melville lifted their game in the second half and St Paul’s defended for long periods. Two tries were scored by Melville making the score 21-14. A try to Judd Redmond saw the game tied up at 21 all. Melville scored again 28 -21 and then a late try to Ryan van Straalen in the corner saw the final score 28 -26. This was an excellent effort against an older and bigger opposition.
