Playing at home on Saturday, the St Paul’s 2nd XV knew they had everything to play for against Te Awamutu 1st XV. Right from kick off we applied pressure and soon realised just how physical the game was going to be. We maintained intensity throughout the entire first half but were unable to penetrate the Te Awamutu defence and went into half time with the score at 0 – 0.
The second half saw the St Paul’s men assert early dominance and be rewarded with a penalty directly in front of the posts which was converted by Joel Taylor. Unfortunately, despite defending valiantly, Te Awamutu managed to cross our line in the 2nd to last minute of the game and emerge victors. A massive improvement by the St Paul’s men who felt heartbroken at the final whistle but knew that they had ‘left it all on the field’.
Player of the day was Jackson Morgan.
