St Paula 1st XI was amped for a good game against a strong Hamilton Boys High School 2nd XI. Hamilton Boys high has 19 teams in the senior division their 2nd XI is a team to be reckoned with.
The game started off well as we were determined to put this game to rest early. This happened quickly after a free kick from Tom was headed into the back of the net by Luke. The team relaxed a little and fell off, giving away a soft goal just before the half. 1-1 at half-time a good talk from Coach Groom was needed to motivate the team.
After the half a rejuvenated St Paul's team headed out immediately bouncing better than before, this yielded dividends after a free kick from Uday hit the post and was kicked into the goal by Tom, shortly after some quick passes between the twins saw another goal from Tom. After this, a confusing call by the ref saw HBHS allowed back into the game through an offside goal. This was made worse as legendary midfielder John Penyas was taken off after injuring his ankle. However the saviour substitute from the bench, Josh Cave scored a beautiful goal that even Mike himself would've been proud to score taking the score to 4-2 to St Paul's. One last goal from HBHS was little consolation with the final score being 4-3 to St Paul's at full time.
