The 1st XV traveled to Tauranga on Saturday for a Chiefs cup match against Tauranga Boy College. The opening exchanges were fairly even with TBC scoring first, then St Paul's replying with a try to Samisoni Taukei'aho to take the score to seven a piece. The period before half time was not good for St Paul's, and the team conceded two trys, to trail 19-7 at the break.
TBC scored another shortly after half time, and looked to have the game wrapped up. Then St Paul's kicked into action, and put the larger and tiring TBC under real pressure, with trys to Trent Collingwood, and a second to Samisoni to bring the boys right back into the game. TBC feeling the pressure, played it safe in the second half, choosing to take three points when on offer. Late in the game St Paul's missed some key opportunities, and in the end fell short, the final score 29-19 to TBC.
