On Wednesday the 1st XV played Wanganui Collegiate at home. In the first half the game was very close, with St Paul’s making too many errors. Wanganui were successful at slowing the game down and frustrating St Paul’s. Tom Yarrall scored the only try in the first half. Wanganui also kicked a penalty, to take the score at half time to 5-3.
In the second half things opened up a lot more. St Paul’s were able to find more gaps and inject their positive, fast style of running rugby into the game. Second half tries were scored by Asipeli Mafua’taimi, Alex Mitchell, Shniel Singh, and Thomas Gordon. Tyrell Martin also converting 3 of the 5 tries. The final score was 31 – 15. A well-deserved win, but giving the team plenty to work on for upcoming games.
