On Saturday the 1st XV kicked off their Central North Island competition with a comprehensive win over St John’s College of Hastings. The team started extremely well, blowing St John’s off the paddock, with a try from the first play, then two more quickly after, all three converted by Tyrell Martin, including one from the sideline. First half try scorers: two to Asipeli, Thomas Gordon, and Samisoni. Half time score 28-0.
The team were slightly less clinical in the second half, with a few drop balls, and at times losing turning over ball at the breakdown, however, they still managed to win comprehensively 52-0, with further tries to Trent Collingwood, Blake Wilson, Tom Yarrall, and a third Aspipeli.
