You only had to look at the dugouts and sidelines to know that this was a tense and exciting game! Both sides were keen to progress to the final and made their intensions known from the first whistle. It felt more like a final than a semifinal. Although we probably had the better of the exchanges we were unable to overcome their very solid defense. They too were unable to score and we went to the break 0 – 0.
The intensity from both sides never wavered and both teams continued to work extremely hard. At about three quarter time HGHS scored and now the pressure was on us to equalise. We upped the effort and continued to work our way into their circle, but were denied on numerous occasions. Never letting up we were eventually able to score through Phoebe Boyes – match drawn as the final whistle blew before either side was able to make it back to half-way!
More pressure to come as we had to go to penalty strokes. A nerve wracking few minutes as they matched us goal for goal. However victory was not to be ours as they managed to convert 4 to our 3. Final score a 4 – 5 loss.
Every member of the team contributed their bit in what was an extremely tight and exciting match. Both sides had given it their all and our girls are to be congratulated on a wonderful effort – you all did us proud!!!
