St Paul’s First XI played Nui A Tia College from Taupo on Wednesday night in the first game of the Midlands regional hockey competition. St Paul’s came out firing and dominated from the starting whistle, scoring 3 goals within the opening 10 minutes. Quick ball speed and movement from the backs created many penetrations into the oppositions half to attack Taupo’s circle. Forwards and midfielders linked effectively together and goals were scored in constant succession throughout the game. Taupo were unable to answer back for the entire game, as occasional counter attacks were quickly closed down.
Jono Bloor, Daniel Scanlon, Alec Wilson, Sam Holmes and Bede Higgens all scored a goal, led by Sean Henley-Smith who scored a hat trick. Final score was 8 nil, a great start to the competition for the First XI hockey boys.
