St Paul’s started off well, dispossessing Te Awamutu and immediately going on the attack. We earned a number of penalty corners in the first 10 minutes but were unable to convert any. Te Awamutu broke out of their half and scored in the twelfth minute. St Paul’s maintained a very high work rate but were unable to put together combinations that culminated in a goal.
0 – 1 down at the break. After discussing lack of structure we resumed the second half with the same energy, and creation of better chances but were still unable to find the back of the goal. Eventually Zoe Lapwood was rewarded for her effort, in a 19th minute goal. Tails up, we maintained pressure on Te Awamutu but their defense stood firm, even managing to clear our last penalty corner off the goal line.
