Wanganui play in the Federation Cup at tournament this year – this is the top tournament and we play in tier three. Hence we were expecting a tough game and we got it. Wanganui were far more together and although they beat us, in no way were we dominated – they had to work really hard for every goal they scored.
To their advantage Hinehou, our goalie, is new to hockey this year and has not faced anything like the attack that Wanganui had. Although she made some fantastic saves Wanganui were just too strong for us. We were 6 – 1 down at the break (our goal scorer was Phoebe Boyes) and ended 11 – 1 down. Our girls are to be commended on their never say die attitude – not once did their heads drop, and although we were able to penetrate their circle on occasion, only the one goal was forthcoming.
