The U65Kg team played St John’s College on Saturday in the play-off for third/fourth after their narrow loss against Hamilton Boys’ High School the week before. The game was played in extremely muddy conditions on the St John’s lower field and this restricted expansive play. But impressively, St Paul’s started the game with some excellent passing movements and their backline held a clear advantage over their opponents. However, after a long injury break, the side lost a bit of its continuity. At half-time the score-line was 14-5 to St John’s and St Paul’s turned with the wind, but in a hard fought tussle, St John’s edged away to win (tries to Morgan Dunn and Sam Metcalfe). Charlie Oliver had a strong game in the forwards, while Mitchell Clark and Morgan Dunn combined well in the backs.
