We knew that St John’s 1 would be a quality side and that we would need to start the game well.
We made a really strong start into the wind with the forwards dominating the game. Soon we were 19-0 up after scoring 3 tries and 2 conversions.
Unfortunately we went asleep for 15 minutes and St John’s had all the possession and momentum. They came right back into the game with 2 tries making the score 19-12 at half time.
St John’s took the momentum into the second half and scored again to level the scores at 19 all.
We then used the wind and forced St John’s back into their half. Our lineout with Hamish Joyce completely dominated and we mauled over from 2 lineouts to score. St John’s also scored one more try.
This game serves as great preparation for the kind of game that lies ahead in the Semi-finals next term. Captain Gus Hanham was again inspirational scoring three tries.
