SPC knew that they had to restore pride and a positive attitude after last week’s heavy loss to Tauranga boys when they came up against the top of the table HBHS team.
Defence and the contest at the breakdown had been a focus all week at training.
However, though this had greatly improved HBHS’s constant phase pressure and offloading saw them score 3 tries before Playah Opetaia finished a brilliant team try for SPC before the half time break. This gave the team much needed confidence to play to their ability.
The second half proved to be a more even contest between the sides, which saw an outstanding try to Kuwyn Price created from a clever chip kick by Jahan Singh. Unfortunately, some lazy defence from SPC saw HBHS score 2 long range tries to close the game. The team will aim for a more accurate performance against St Peters this weekend.
