We faced a much improved St John’s team and we knew they would be a touch opposition on their home ground. This certainly proved to be the case.
We had to defend for long periods of time at the start of the match as St John’s had most of the possession.
Clay Richardson scored a 50m breakaway try which was converted by Declan O’Sullivan. Later in the half, Lachlan Townsend made a brilliant cross-field kick to get Matthew Johnson in for a converted try. St John’s did not give up and scored a try of their own.
At half time the score was 14-5.
The boys stuck to the task and when Nico Mitchell scored with less than 10 minutes to go, we were in reach of our goal. Time was running out fast and with 2 minutes to go, Charlie Oliver dove over for the bonus point win.
