Last Friday the Premier Boys played St. John’s. Mentally the boys were a lot more prepared and were not going to settle for yet another loss. In the first quarter, through the dominant play of our big men Jack Boyd and Logan Jarvis, St Paul's were able to jump out to a big lead leading by 12 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, continued dominant play in the post, allowed us to build on an already large lead. Our guards were able to put pressure on their back court and force a lot of turnovers that would then lead to easy baskets. The defensive pressure led by Carter and Reid Elkington allowed the boys to build momentum deep into the second quarter eventually leading to a large 24-point lead at the end of the first half. With a good team talk during halftime the team were able to stay hot and come out into the second half playing the same level of basketball and building an even bigger lead. St. John’s struggled to score against the tough defence and were only able to score 8 points in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was nothing different with the boys playing great. Overall it was an amazing team effort, even from the bench and the team would see an 83-37 win. Leading scorers were Logan Jarvis, Reid Elkington and Carter Elkington who would combine to score 52.
