St Paul's headed out to play at Matamata College with only ten players and were up against it for most of the match. The home team passed the ball around well and it wasn't long before debutante goalkeeper, Bo Jacobson, was regularly in action making some fine saves. Matamata attacks were one after the other at this stage and they scored three times before half time. St Pauls lifted their game considerably after half time and pinned the locals back for the first 20 minutes of the half. The side was driven on by strong midfield work from Emi Ng and Captain Brittany Griffin which was complimented by sterling work up front by lone striker Kacey Diggleman. Captain Brittany scored a fine goal from 20 metres with a powerful drive and created several other chances to score and at this stage Matamata were under pressure as St Paul's were on top. However, as the game progressed, the ten players tired and the Matamata strikers took full advantage by scoring a further four goals before the game was over.
In conclusion, St Paul's played with plenty of spirit and commitment which should augur well for the weeks ahead. However it is clear that a greater commitment to turning up for training and being available for matches will be essential if the side is to improve and nudge towards gaining better results. Football is no different from much else in life, you get out of it what you put into.
