We took the field feeling reasonably upbeat but the first half did not work for us. Short two players when we took the field and losing one more 10 minutes into the game should not have been the reason for a first half of play without intensity. 0 – 2 down at half time.
To give the girls their due, they were down on themselves at half time and they really upped their game in the second half pulling back both goals through Phoebe Thompson in the 8th minute and Emanae Ferguson, ably assisted by Jade Henley-Smith in the 9th minute. The girl’s continued to play well but were unable to maintain absolute control and Aquinas were able to score again in the 17th minute. They held out to win 3 – 2.
A disappointing result but a great second half effort from our girls. Our next challenge is the division semifinal against Pukekohe next week.
Player of the Day: Phoebe Thompson.
