After previously beating this side on two occasions, we were probably too confident going into this game. Although slightly under strength we should have produced a better result than we managed.
We found ourselves rushing things at the start of the match instead of playing our natural game and although we dominated both territory and possession, little errors consistently let us down. We eventually turned our dominance into a goal through Emanae Ferguson 5 minutes from half time. 1 – 0 at the break.
The second half was to a great extent similar. Almost at ¾ time we penetrated Dio’s circle with a number of players doing exactly what was wanted. Phoebe Thompson scored and we found ourselves 2 – 0 up. However 5 minutes later Dio were able to pull back one goal. Instead of playing a more conservative game, defending a very slender lead, we allowed Dio to equalise.
Insufficient time to retake the lead saw us draw 2 all. Lessons to be learned!
