The 1st XV had a comfortable 28-0 win over St Peter’s on Saturday. Prior to the game the coaches spoke to the teams about how determined to win St Peter’s were and so it proved with St Paul’s seeing little ball for the first 10mins of the game with St Paul’s unable to build any momentum. The first time we got decent front football we managed to score with Connor Collins dotting down after an excellent 20m run. After this we dominated the game but we were unable to score due largely to poor handling and silly penalties. At half time we had a narrow 7-0 lead which didn’t reflection the dominance the team had.
In the second half the constant weight of possession we enjoyed eventually resulted in a try to lock Romke Hoogstra. Further tries to Samisoni and Sam Cooper gave us a comfortable 28-0 win to secure our biggest winning margin against St Peter’s in recent years.
Special mention must be made of Ferg Burke who had a 100% record with the boot and the team in general, who for the third game in a row, kept the opposition scoreless.
This Saturday we face top of the table Fielding High School at 12:30pm. This is a televised game and your support would be greatly appreciated by the team.
