St Paul’s Badminton Team won their second consecutive title in the Waikato Secondary School second division competition.
After a successful season – where the boys’ team won ten of eleven round robin matches – the team met rivals Fairfield College’s senior boys’ in the final.
St Paul’s lost to Fairfield in a round-robin match earlier in the competition so St Paul’s went into the final with pure determination to win and defend their previous year’s title.
It was a tense and highly competitive match but the boys won three of the four singles. A vital win by Steven Wen, in a highly-competitive close encounter, reduced the pressure on the team before the doubles matches. The team went on to win three of the four doubles games to secure an excellent championship-winning victory.
