As the new Pane o Te Tari Reo Maaori, Ritane Wallace brings years of experience to the Te Reo Maaori programme and culture to St Paul’s Collegiate School.
Leading a team of two Te Reo Maaori teachers, Ritane is excited to share his passion and knowledge with the wider school community. Ritane will implement the new language programme, which sees all Year 9 students learning Te Reo Maaori from this year onwards. Alongside his teaching positions, Ritane will lead the school kapa haka programme.
Ritane completed a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waikato in 2017 and two years later undertook a Masters of Maaori and Pacific Development. While studying for his Masters, Ritane was employed as the Researcher at Te Waha a Tuara, where he supported Ngaati Apakura in reconciling with the Crown. Prior to this, he worked as the Maaori Academic Liaison Librarian at the University of Waikato.
Ritane and his wife Tequila have twin boys, Kingston and Journey, and their youngest son, Tohu.
